Steph Houghton believes City can have a strong second half of the season as more players return from injury.

City have started the New Year in top form, scoring 11 goals on the road without reply and have won four games in succession.

After an injury-plagued first half of the campaign, several high profile stars have returned to training after lengthy lay-offs – including England and City skipper Houghton.

“I’d like to continue to help the team win, not just me - Lucy and others who are close to returning,” said Houghton.

“Our numbers were low, but now we need to kick on and win as many games as we can.

“It’s up to me and other experienced players to drive that, be ruthless and keep playing way we have been.

“Our aim is to always try and get that UWCL place first and foremost.

“We’ve got to play teams above us in coming weeks and it’s about challenging and improving.

“The feeling is good and our attitude is good.

“We’ve got some very good players; it’s about listening to what’s happening inside the building rather than outside.

“That was the talk after Christmas - let’s kick on because, when we are playing at our best, we can beat anyone.

“We need to keep our feet on the ground, work hard in training and take that onto the pitch.”
