Andrée Jeglertz’s side have five league wins from five in the WSL - the only side to still boast a 100% record in the English top flight.
And alongside discussing the transfer business she spearheaded over the summer months, our Director of Football was also asked for her thoughts on the beginning of City’s title defence so far.
“I think the start has been really good,” said Sjögran.
“It’s always difficult to come from the year we had, winning the league and the cup, and then to just start over. It felt like yesterday [winning the Double]!
“But I think that the players have handled it really well, and the start has been amazing. I couldn’t ask for more. But it’s also like to keep that level [is key].
“We have a big squad so we need to find the right rotations and so on. But at the moment, we are performing on a very high level.”
The WSL isn’t the only competition City are unbeaten in, with our title success in 2025/26 confirmed the Blues’ return to the UEFA Women’s Champions League this season.
Jeglertz and the squad were eager to return to the prestigious competition and marked our return with a 2-2 draw at Bayern Munich before a 1-1 stalemate with Real Madrid at the Joie Stadium.
Both games showed City could mix it with top European opposition as the squad adjust to the demands of a compact fixture schedule.
But those challenges are exactly what the Club wants, and what Sjögran feels City deserves.
“I think for us not to be in it last season, it was really painful to watch because I truly believe we should be in that tournament every year,” explained Sjögran.
“The players deserve it. The club deserves it. And for us to be in it now, it’s great. We really want to compete against the best in Europe and now we are.
“We need to take one game at a time but of course the Champions League night is special in many ways. And now we are here and we will for sure compete.”
