Vicky Losada admits her time at Barcelona adds a personal weight of significance to City's UEFA Women’s Champions League clash with Real Madrid.

The Spanish midfielder came through the ranks at her hometown club, going on to captain Barca to European glory in 2021 before moving to the Academy Stadium.

Given the historic rivalry between Blaugranes and Madrid, she reflected that Sunday’s clash carries an extra level of emotion for both herself and former Barcelona teammate Leila Ouahabi, as well as former Atletico Madrid duo Laia Aleixandri and Deyna Castellanos.

With this in mind, she’s hoping that the added experience from our new recruits of facing Las Blancas on a more regular basis can work in our favour at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano.

“I can’t say no [to the game carrying an extra weight of significance]. It does for me, Deyna, Laia and Leila,” Losada explained.

“Leila is coming from Barcelona and Laia and Deyna from Atletico Madrid. There is an extra bonus for us, I can’t say no to that.

“It makes it an even bigger game for us.

“There’s four of us now [who have faced Real Madrid regularly], we know more things about them.

“It’s always good to help the girls. We know the Spanish players so well and now the English players and anyone in the team, we all know them more.

“We don’t want to make the same mistakes as last year.”
