Vivianne Miedema admitted it was difficult to return the Emirates Stadium in Manchester City’s 2024/25 Barclays Women’s Super League opener.

But stated her delight in netting on her competition debut for the Blues in an enthralling 2-2 draw with Arsenal.

The Netherlands international joined Gareth Taylor’s side in the summer after seven successful seasons in north London where she won eight major honours and scored a phenomenal number of goals.

She then wasted little time in adapting to her new surroundings when netting in our 5-0 Women’s Champions League Round Two qualifier before plundering our equaliser against Arsenal before further goals from Jess Park and Beth Mead saw the spoils shared in the capital.

And Miedema believes there’s more to come from herself as the season progresses.

“It was tough for me to come back to the Emirates today. I think it felt like a relief, honestly [to score],” she explained.

“I started scoring for my new club [in the WSL] and I’m just really pleased with that. First game of the season, happy to get a goal and happy to get this game out the way and I can focus on the next game.

“My main goal is staying fit and I wanted to help the team with my experience and qualities and I think at times I did that today, but I also think we can expect a wee bit more from me.”
