City u18s will be aiming to return to winning ways when they host Manchester United on Saturday morning.

After getting off to a flying start in the league and going four games unbeaten, the boy Blues have now lost three on the bounce and will be hoping to put that right in this weekend’s derby.

While the results haven’t gone City’s way in recent weeks, three members of Jason Wilcox’s side were rewarded for excellent performances for the u18s with starting berths in the u19 UEFA Youth League fixture against Bayern Munich.

Jack Byrne, Ash Smith-Brown and 16-year-old Angelino all shone for Patrick Vieira’s men against opponents up to three years their senior.

The bench in the 6-0 demolition of the German side was entirely composed of u18 players, with Brandon Barker, Kean Bryan and Thierry Ambrose all coming on to gain valuable experience.

Saturday’s visitors are currently top of the Barclays u18 Premier League, but were defeated 3-1 by Aston Villa in their last outing.

Kick off is at 11am at Platt Lane (M14 7UU). We’ll bring you updates on twitter as well as a full match report shortly after full time on mcfc.co.uk
