City u18s will be looking to return to winning ways when they host Reading on Saturday.

The young Blues were unlucky to go down 4-3 at Fulham last Saturday in a highly entertaining encounter in West London.

Since then, a number of the team were selected for the UEFA Youth League game against Viktoria Plzen on Tuesday, playing alongside members of Patrick Vieira’s EDS squad.

Ashley Smith-Brown, Jack Byrne and Angelino started the impressive 4-1 victory in Plzen, while Kean Bryan, Brandon Barker, James Horsfield and Jorge Intima all made the bench.

After going four games unbeaten at the start of the Barclays u18 Premier League campaign, manager Jason Wilcox is looking for a response to last week’s defeat.

He said: “The lads were extremely disappointed last week. We dominated play and found ourselves 3-0 down.

“But full credit to them, they got themselves back in the game with lots of good play. The game is won and lost in both boxes and unfortunately for us we gave Fulham four chances and they slotted four. The difference was we had about 24 open play chances and we didn’t convert many of them.

“That’s the challenge this week - to take our chances when we get into the final third and be ruthless in both boxes.”

The Royals will present a challenge to the boy Blues, having collected three wins and nine points from their opening five games.

Kick off at Platt Lane (M14 7UU) is at noon and we’ll bring you updates on twitter, as well as a full match report on mcfc.co.uk.
