City u18s will be looking to tighten their hold on top spot when they host Wolves on Saturday.

The young Blues regained the U18 Premier League summit with a comprehensive win over Middlesbrough last weekend to earn a two point advantage over Everton in second, having played one game fewer.

A brace from Portuguese winger Jorge Intima, plus goals for Thierry Ambrose and Jack Byrne saw Jason Wilcox’s men run out 4-0 winners over a determined Boro side at Platt Lane, and they will be keen to sustain momentum against Wolves.

Ahead of the under-19 UEFA Youth League quarter final with Portuguese side Benfica, the match also presents an ideal time for the boy Blues to impress and push their way into Patrick Vieira’s competitive EDS squad.

Meanwhile, Wolves lie five places and 21 points behind City in the league, and have not won in their last five fixtures. However, they have proved they can score goals, recording 6-1 victories twice already this season and playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw with Blackburn at the start of the month.

The away fixture was postponed earlier this season, but the two sides faced off home and away last year, and while Wolves recorded a 3-0 victory on home turf City triumphed by a single Jack Byrne goal in the return fixture.

Kick off is at 11am at Platt Lane (M14 7UU) and we’ll have a full match report right here on mcfc.co.uk after full time.
