City u18s will be looking to go three games unbeaten when they travel to Liverpool on Saturday.

Last time out, the young Blues were held to a 1-1 draw by a defiant Wolves side at Platt Lane. City dominated the game for long periods and struck the first blow through Brandon Barker, but were ahead for barely two minutes before the visitors restored parity, and a winning goal was to prove elusive.

Jason Wilcox’s young squad are now level at the top of the U18 Premier League North Division with Everton, after the Merseysiders comfortably saw off Middlesbrough 3-1 last weekend, but have a superior goal difference and have played one game fewer than the Toffees.

Since then, seven of last week’s starting XI took their places on the bench for the u19 UEFA Youth League quarter final clash with Benfica. Meanwhile, Angelino and Kean Bryan, regular names on the teamsheet for the u18s this season, started the game in which Patrick Vieira’s men gave an excellent display but could not prevent the Eagles prevailing 2-1 with a pair of second half strikes.

Liverpool come into this game off the back off a 4-2 loss to Bolton Wanderers following an FA Youth Cup exit at the hands of a penalty shootout against Reading. However, prior to that they were unbeaten in four games so will provide a test for Wilcox’s boy Blues.

Last time these two teams met, City triumphed in the most dramatic of styles, scoring twice in stoppage time to rescue a 3-2 victory amid swirling December winds and will be seeking to replicate that result on Merseyside.

Kick off is at 11am at the Liverpool Academy (L33 7ED). We’ll have updates on twitter and a full match report after full time right here on mcfc.co.uk.
