MCFC U18s v Stoke City U18s Friday 30 January 2015 - 7pm City Football Academy Stadium

A place in the FA Youth Cup quarter final is up for grabs on Friday night.

Stoke stand in the way of our under-18s and a place in the last eight as the sides lock horns at the City Football Academy stadium.

City made light work of Coventry City in the fourth round to reach this stage, hitting the Sky Blues for eight in a devastating show of strength which included a stunning treble from Brandon Barker.

However, this encounter with Stoke promises to be a sterner test for Jason Wilcox’s young charges.

The Potters booked their place in the last 16 with a convincing 3-0 victory over Mansfield ten days ago courtesy of goals from Julien N’Goy, Johnville Renee-Pringle and Daniel Jarvis.

If the meeting between City and Stoke earlier this season is anything to go by, it promises to be a tight and cagey cup clash on Friday night.

Callum Bullock became the final City goalscorer at Platt Lane in November when he gave his team the lead on 44 minutes before Yusuf Coban levelled it with half an hour left to play.

One each was how it finished, meaning the spoils were shared, although Wilcox’s boys did manage a league double over Stoke last season and are likely to be boosted by a number of the Elite Development Squad joining the ranks.

In the last round, EDS regulars Barker, Thierry Ambrose, Angelino, Pablo Maffeo, Kean Bryan and Bersant Celina all featured for the under-18s.

Friday night’s visitors are managed by Richard Perkins, who is of the opinion that his side have what it takes to add City to their list of Youth Cup victims, following wins over Mansfield and Sheffield Wednesday.

“We’re looking forward to the next round and a trip to Manchester City, probably at their new training ground,” Perkins told stokecityfc.com.

“We know it will be a difficult game but we played them away in the league and drew after playing very well.

“We’ve got good momentum behind us in the cup following a couple of good wins and have started 2015 really well.

“Now we’ll be hoping to extend our run in this prestigious competition.”

Arsenal or Crewe Alexandra await the winners in the sixth round.
