Goals from Ian Carlo Poveda, Jadon Sancho, Lorenzo Gonzalez, Phil Foden and Joe Hardy sealed the three points but it wasn’t all plain sailing for Carsley’s men.
With City just one goal to the good at half-time, a flurry of goals followed after the break and Carsley praised his side for the way they took advantage of their dominance in the second period.
He said: “It’s another big win for the team. It was a really tough game today because of the way they set up with five across the back and the four in midfield.
“They let us have the ball and we found it difficult to break them down. With patience and a little bit more quality in the second half, we got through and scored the goals.”
The victory made it fifteen matches unbeaten for the Blues in this year’s Premier League and ensured they end 2016 on a positive note.
“We’ve come up against a lot of styles already this season. Stoke’s lot were big, strong, physical players and their recruitment has proved effective,” said Carsley.
“That was another good challenge for our lads. It’s an excellent victory and will give them confidence and belief heading into this Christmas break.”
