U18s goalkeeper Aro Muric believes City are favourites for this weekend’s trip to Newcastle United – provided they play at their best for the full 90 minutes.

Lee Carsley’s team are unbeaten so far in the U18 Premier League with five wins and two draws from their seven matches.

Muric has played a major part in the early season success, conceding just four goals, but the Swiss shot-stopper knows City can’t afford to rest on their laurels.

The 17-year-old has warned his teammates they must be at their best if they are to take three points from their trip to the Newcastle United Academy.

“I think it will be a great game and if we play like we have shown in the last game then we will win this game.

“If we can play that way from the start to the end then we will be in a good position to beat our rivals.

“Me and my teammates are working on everything and always trying to get better in every way we can.”

Muric’s concerns come after the side’s slow start to last Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Derby County.

Although City eventually ran out comfortable winners, they fell behind in the opening minutes and struggled to create a passing rhythm throughout the early periods.

An impressive attacking display eventually overpowered Derby and Muric expects City to be at the races much sooner on Saturday.

“We had a few weeks with no games and some of the players were away for the internationals so we needed the first ten minutes but with time we built up and the second half was much better.

“The pitch was much bigger and we had much more time. The players in the middle like Jadon, Phil and Ian had more space to play well.

“They like having that space because it helps to show how good we are. When the pitch is smaller teams can get closer to our best players.”
