The England U19 striker has made seven appearances in the tournament but two hat-tricks against Stoke, a brace against Reading and strikes in the home ties with Southampton and Liverpool have seen him to double figures for goals.
Nmecha also looked likely to be City’s greatest goal threat during the first half of Tuesday’s final first leg - hitting the post and firing narrowly over within minutes of each other.
In the end, it was Phil Foden who grabbed City’s equaliser but Nmecha will be looking to get back on the scoresheet come Wednesday night’s second leg at Stamford Bridge.
How has he amassed his tally so far though?
Reading
City were already 2-0 up at the Madejski Stadium in December when Nmecha grabbed his first of the tournament. Driving at the Reading defence shortly after half-time, Nmecha let rip a low, drilled effort that proved unstoppable.
He scored his second and City’s fourth of the night shortly after latching on to a Luke Bolton cross in a combination that would become familiar throughout City’s run.
Liverpool
City had a narrow advantage – 2-1 this time – at the Academy Stadium when Nmecha ghosted behind the Liverpool defence and flicked Demeaco Duhaney’s delicious in swinging cross over Kamil Grabara in the visitors’ goal.
Southampton
Another 4-0 thrashing and another to add to the tally for Nmecha. This time he scored City’s third with a simple tap in at the back-post following a deep Duhaney cross that left Southampton’s goalkeeper stranded.
Aston Villa
A rare substitute appearance and goalless evening for Nmecha in Birmingham. The 18-year-old came on in the 62nd minute with the scores tied and proved a useful focal point as City fought to break down a stubborn Villa defence. The winner eventually came through Matt Smith in the dying moments to the joy of all City fans that had made the journey.
Stoke (H)
City’s striker, who usually spends most of his time with the Elite Development Squad, was back in the first eleven and it proved to be a wise decision. Nmecha scored City’s third, fifth and sixth goals at the Academy Stadium to effectively end the tie at the halfway stage.
His first of the night came from a wicked Bolton cross before he received Smith’s pass to fire home his second. The goal to seal his hat-trick was perhaps the pick of the lot as he cut inside to fire into the top corner.
Stoke (A)
Any thoughts of taking it easy in the Potteries were quickly dispelled when Nmecha turned home - yes, you guessed it – Bolton’s cross within three minutes. He then rekindled memories of Reading with his second strike before tucking away a penalty he had earned to seal a 3-2 victory on the night.
