City Under-14s travelled across the Atlantic to take part in the Nexen Manchester City Cup tournament over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The Blues arrived in San Diego on Wednesday ready for four days of matches against a host of teams from around the globe.

The first day of the tournament brought in a mixed bag of results for City, starting off with an thrilling 9-2 win over Real Salt Lake’s Academy side and ending with a narrow 1-0 defeat to Mexican outfit Club Tijuana Xoloitzcuintles de Caliente.

After a day’s rest the Blues were back in action on Sunday.

On the penultimate day of the competition City faced Club America, but after it finished 1-1 at 90 minutes the game launched to penalties. City came out on top with a 4-2 result from the shoot-out to take them into the ‘Silver Final’ on Monday.

The Irvine Strikers were crowned the Supergroup 2018 Champions owing to a 2-1 win over Girona in the Grand Final of the tournament.

In our last match of the tournament we took on Chivas de Guadalajara. The game unfortunately ended in defeat for our Under-14s, but the 4-0 result still meant that we finished second in Bracket A just one point below Champions Irvine Strikers.

All in all, a fantastic experience for our Academy boys!
