Doyle opened the scoring with a stunning free-kick, before Braaf’s individual brilliance resulted in us doubling our lead, with McAtee added a third late on.
However, prior to Doyle’s opener, Taylor’s youngsters had failed to take a number of good chances and while the former City striker was satisfied with the performance, he believes his team could done better in front of goal.
“The lads did well tonight,” he said.
“It was difficult with only a few days of preparation but there were some really good moments. Potentially we could have been ahead by more and we could maybe have been a bit more clinical in the first half.
“We should have had more. We spoke to the players at half time and we went over a few concepts to improve and we did in the second half.”
Our U18s will face Aston Villa in the fourth round and have again been handed a home tie.
Taylor is keen his players don’t get carried a way, however, particularly given the unpredictable nature of knockout football.
“There’s going to be some tough tests ahead,” he continued.
“We’re in a competition where it’s a one-off game. If you don’t turn up properly or don’t do the fundamentals right, then you can find yourself out.
“There’s a lot of Category 1 academy teams that have been knocked out already. Fortunately that hasn’t happened to us.
“We did enough tonight and it’s difficult to predict but we know that if we don’t up it then we could end up being one of those tales we’re talking about.”
