The versatile 17-year-old admitted the North division’s pace setters were left frustrated by the stalemate with the third-placed outfit, but was satisfied to leave Merseyside with an impressive eight-match unbeaten run still intact.
“It’s definitely frustrating,” he said.

“They’re quite near to us in the league, so we wanted to go there and try and get three points.
“But, we’ve not lost the game and they are one of the toughest teams we can face in the league and with it being away at their place, it’s not a bad result.
“We both had chances and it could have gone either way. Sometimes you come away thinking ‘how have we not won’.
“I don’t think this was one of those games, but I do think we deserved it a little bit more.”
Gareth Taylor’s side were forced to come from behind at Finch Farm, with Lewis Dobbin opening the scoring after Egan-Riley had his pocket picked by Toffees’ striker Tom Cannon.
The young centre-half was unmoved, however, playing an exquisite slide rule through ball that almost led to a goal immediately after and standing up to the physical challenge posed by the hosts throughout.
He acknowledges playing out from the back leaves defenders at risk to such situations, but won’t be dwelling on the moment that he was pleased to see cancelled out by Cole Palmer’s penalty.
The games are coming thick and fast for City and Egan-Riley is already looking ahead to next Saturday’s U18 Premier League Cup quarter-final against Brighton and Hove Albion, where he hopes the Academy outfit can build on a stellar start to the campaign.
“In my position, I know if I give the ball away it might lead to a goal because there’s only the keeper there to bail me out,” he added.
“I’ve made a mistake that’s lead to a goal, but I wanted to show that I would still get on the ball and try and help the team.
“Making mistakes is part of football and obviously we’re a bit disappointed, but we just have to move onto the next match. It’s a big game and then we need to make sure we win the next few in the league.
“We’re still top and we’ve done fantastically, losing only two games and drawing one. So far, we’re doing well.”
