The tie stands at 1-1 after an entertaining first leg at Stamford Bridge, and reflecting on that game Alex thinks tonight could see more of the same.
“It was a very good attacking game,” says Alex, “both sides showed some great flair and I think it’s going to be a similar game when we meet again at home.
“We’ve worked particularly hard on keeping possession all season, and if you can keep the ball you can tire the opposition. At Stamford Bridge I thought Chelsea had a bit too much of the ball, so we’ve been working on keeping it more, then you’re in a position to get forward.”
The young Blues are set to play in front of another big crowd tonight following on from the semi final second leg and the game in London two weeks ago, something Alex sees as instrumental in the long-term aims of the Academy.
“One of the great opportunities is to play in front of a good crowd, we’re hoping that it plays a positive part on Wednesday. It’s a development programme and we’re trying to give the boys every opportunity to find out what it’s like in the Premier League.
“I think we have strengths in every area, to single anyone out would be unfair. Sturridge has played in the Premier League – but Ball alongside him up front has got 30 goals this season. The midfield has been creating all season, and Angelos Tsiaklis, who has also played well, may only start on the bench.
“Every player in this squad has a threat, whether at a set play or defending, but I think it’s going to be a decent match because Chelsea have some good players as well.”
