City’s Academy have something more to shout about after Academy defender Freddy Veseli led Switzerland to victory in the Under 17 World Cup on Sunday.

Switzerland’s 1-0 win over hosts and holders Nigeria is the perfect birthday present for the Swiss centre back, who turns 17 this coming Friday and captained his country to glory in Abuja.

Freddy, pictured third from right and wearing number five, is in his third year with City and International Academy Director Jim Cassell thinks the youngster will kick on from here and from strength to strength.

He said, “Frederick is an exceptionally talented defender renowned for his ability on the ball. He can also play in a number of positions and could eventually develop into a central midfield player.”

This season’s FA Youth Cup campaign will begin with an away trip to play Preston North End, date to be announced in due course. The Under 18s lost 3-1 at home to West Brom at the weekend, our goal coming from John Guidetti.
