City’s run of success in the Academy derby came to a crashing halt today when they went down 3-0 to United.
The Red’s Will Keane struck a first-half hat-trick to leave the Blues empty handed. It was only the third time in nine attempts that United had avoided defeat against City at under 18 level.
Although there was a big improvement after the interval at United’s Carrington HQ, City were unable to make any inroads in what was a second defeat on the bounce. Scott Sellars’ side will be looking for better in two weeks time when Stoke City are the visitors to Platt Lane.
The under 16s fixture with United ended in a 2-2 draw.
