City’s stumbling start to the FA Premier Academy League continued at Newcastle.

The boy Blues, who started so promisingly with a comfortable victory at Cardiff, but then lost at home to Crystal Palace, went down to a second successive defeat – the first time it has happened in the league in more than three seasons - 3-1 to the Magpies with Swedish striker John Gudetti grabbing the Blues consolation goal in a game they dominated for long periods but let slip midway through the first half when they conceded twice in five minutes.

Gudetti’s effort dragged Andy Welsh’s side back into the contest before the break but Newcastle struck on the counter attack to wrap up the points.

The lads are back at Platt Lane for their next contest when they will hope to get back on the winning track against Middlesbrough (September 12).
