The prolific Harry Bunn put City ahead after 35 minutes with his seventh goal in just five games, but the visitors pegged the Blues back before the break.
It was 2-1 to City on 50 when Kennedy followed up Kim Skogsrud’s header at a free kick, but Newcastle were level again through a questionable penalty 13 minutes later. It was City’s second draw in a row but it leaves them undefeated for the season so far going into next Saturday’s derby game at Platt Lane.
Coach Scott Sellars said: “It was a bitty performance, we were good at times but once again we were up against a side that were mostly older than us. The lads are learning to cope with that and it’s very pleasing that they can dig in as a unit when they need to.”
City: Johansen, Coulson, K Skogsrud, Kennedy, Meppen-Walters, Clowes, Drury, Clarke-Adams, Bunn, Roman, Henshall.
