Read how Lee Carsley's side fared when they played Arsenal in the U18 Premier League Merit Group A

Manchester City lost 4-3 in a thrilling game against Arsenal in Merit Group A of the U18 Premier League at London Colney on Wednesday.

Lukas Nmecha opened the scoring with a fine finish – further evidence of his prowess in front of goal – but two goals in five minutes from Eddie Nketiah put the home side in front.

Jadon Sancho, perhaps City’s most consistent player in recent weeks, then equalised after a mazy run and finish that gave Joao Virginia in the Arsenal goal no chance.

It was 2-2 at half time and the game was shaping up to be a classic, as two sides playing bold, attacking football went at one another mercilessly.

Nketiah bagged his hattrick to put Arsenal back in front, before Nmecha scored from the spot after being brought down inside the area.

But Marcus McGuane’a strike saw Arsenal go ahead for the third time and City couldn’t find a reply, despite plenty of attacking intent.

There was time for more drama, though, as Aro Muric pulled off a fine penalty stop in injury time.

The result leaves Lee Carsley’s side in fifth place in Merit Group A of this season’s U18 Premier League.
