The home side look the lead early during the hard fought match, but the Blues continued to respond to the Canaries.
Goals for City came from Felix Nmecha’s penalty and Tommy Doyle’s strike, while Adam Idah and Jaden Thompson-Brissett netted the two for Norwich City.
What happened
Manchester City pressed throughout the first-half and looked in more control of the game than the home side.
The first chance of the game went to Gareth Taylor’s side in the fifth minute of the clash, as Rowan McDonald rippled around the Norwich defence before curling his effort towards the top right corner of Joe McCracken’s net - but the ‘keeper’s outstretched hand prevented City from taking the lead.
The game remained goalless until just three minutes before the half-time whistle, when the home-side made it onto the scoresheet.
Adam Iyah pressed on and was able to outrun City skipper Eric Garcia to pinpoint the back of Curtis Anderson’s goal - which marked the second of Norwich’s shots on target, but this time he was successful.
The 1-0 trail installed a new fire in the Blues, as Ian Carlo Povedo slalomed around the yellow and green jerseys just a minute after Norwich’s goal but was unable to equalise before the break.
In the second half City were certainly more powerful and created a significant number of chances.
The Blues equalised in the 52nd minute courtesy of a penalty, which was won by Nabil Touaizi, and the shot was taken by Felix Nmecha.
There wasn’t much time to celebrate though, as the visiting side were focused on progressing forward and taking the lead, but it would be Norwich who got the next goal.
Jaden Thompson-Brissett’s effort in the 70th minute curled past Anderson and meant that the home side once again took the lead. But City responded nine minutes later when substitution Tommy Doyle appeared from nowhere to fire a bullet-like strike past McCracken.
In the final moments of the game, City were incredibly determined to clinch the win with chances being created left, right and centre.
In the closing minutes of the game Poveda’s shot on target was excellent, but so was the Norwich ‘keeper’s save. This was followed by Garcia’s close shot when he almost converted Jeremie Frimpong’s accurate cross, and finally Doyle looked close to securing his second goal of the match but his long-range effort was unlucky to fire slightly over the crossbar.
How they lined up
Curtis Anderson was in goal, with Alpha Dionkou, captain Garcia, Colin Rosler, and Jeremie Frimpong in defence.
Rowan McDonald, Henri Ogunby, Felix Nmecha and Poveda made up the midfield, while Nabil Touaizi and Fisaya Dele-Bashiru were upfront for the Blues.
