Nabil Touaizi struck the only goal of the game, as City Under-18s clinched a narrow victory over Wolves in the U18 Premier League.

The 18-year-old fired the matchwinner just after the half-hour mark, securing a seventh with in eight games for Gareth Taylor’s young charges.

What happened…

The game’s early exchanges heralded few chances with Wolves fashioning the first real opportunity, when Terry Taylor’s effort flew just over the crossbar after 15 minutes.

Heeding the warning, City rallied and gained control of possession, enjoying a spell of pressure on the hosts’ goal.

Our first major venture into the final third saw D’Margio Wright-Phillips aim to pick out Touaizi – only for Callum Thompson to clear the danger.

Ben Knight was then unfortunate not to break the deadlock, bursting forward and unleashing an effort which sailed just wide of the top corner.

The opener followed a minute later, when Touaizi latched onto Henri Ogunby’s through-ball and slotted past Jackson Smith.

The provider almost turned poacher just before the break, as Ogunby headed wide and then forced Smith to tip over the bar in the last major action of the half.

The second half’s early action mirrored the first half with few chances.

On 65 minutes, Wolves spurned the chance to level, when Gavin Bazunu thwarted Conor Carty, after the forward had raced onto a loose ball.

As the hosts pushed for a late equaliser, the game opened up, creating chances for both sides.

Substitute Fisayo Dele-Bashiru forced Smith into another fine stop, clawing around the post, while Keke Simmonds also tested the Wolves shot-stopper.

At the other end, the home side found themselves within inches of levelling when Theodor Corbeanu crossed for Terry, whose effort rolled narrowly off-target.

That proved the closest the Midlands side would come to snatching a draw, and City held on for victory.

What it means…

The victory moved City to within two points of sixth-placed Stoke, with three games in hand.

Taylor’s side have 24 points from 17 games.
