Manchester City can confirm that striker Emmanuel Adebayor has left the African Cup of Nations in Angola and is on a plane back to Togo where he will be reunited with his family.
Club officials and manager Roberto Mancini have made it clear that he will be given as long as possible and all the help he needs to recover fully from the trauma of the gun attack on the Togo team coach and the subsequent death of his friends and colleagues.
