Manchester City have made a Christmas donation to Manchester Central Foodbank, to ensure people in the local community do not go hungry during the festive period.

Armed with a raft of tinned food, dry goods and other non-perishable items, Elite Development Squad players, T, delivered the donation on behalf of everyone at the Club.

During the visit, the duo immersed themselves in the charity’s work to find out just how valuable it is to people across the city.

It’s a busy time of year for the staff and both Dele-Bashiru and Duhaney helped to arrange donations and moved boxes of food into the store room, ready to help those who need it, while also taking the time to speak to people who keep the foodbank running throughout the year.

For 18-year-old Dele-Bashiru, who made his first team debut against Leicester City this week, it was a welcome opportunity to connect with the local community.

“It was a good experience to see the inspiring work people in our community do day in and day out to support each other,” he said.

“The staff were really warm and it’s great to have the opportunity to help give back, especially at this time of year.

“It’s incredible how many people in Manchester have already supported the cause and hopefully the donations continue to help make the foodbank’s great work possible.”

Based at Manchester Universities’ Catholic Student Chaplaincy, last year the foodbank provided 1,516 three-day emergency food supplies and it continues to be an invaluable lifeline for people in crisis.

Duhaney echoed his team-mates sentiments and hopes City’s donation encourages others to come forward to help tackle the issue.

“I didn’t know too much beforehand, but the staff explained what they do and they were really grateful for the donations,” added the full-back.

“It’s really busy at this time of year. On average, 15 people visit every half an hour, so they’re feeding between 200-300 people a month.

“It’s very important we do things like this, not only to make the donation, but to raise awareness of the issue.”
