Founded by Chairman Salah Benhagouga, Algiers Cityzens boast 13 members, many of whom have been following City since Algerian international Ali Bernabia arrived at the Club twenty years ago.

The fan favourite spent two entertaining years at Maine Road from 2001 and since then, the founding members’ love for the Club has only grown.

With Riyad Mahrez’s arrival at the Etihad Stadium enhancing City’s popularity in his homeland, Salah and his friends decided to become an official branch with the aim of bringing other Algeria based fans closer to the Club.

“In Algeria we love football and we love the Premier League because it’s the best league in the world,” explained Vice-Chair Nacim Takerboucht.

“We especially love Manchester City because there have been so many Algerian players that have played for the Club, like the best Algerian player, Riyad Mahrez.

“We have been following City since Ali Benarbia played and since then it has become a passion in our lives.

“The popularity of Manchester City has increased in recent years, so we decided to create an official committee of supporters for us and all the fans in Algeria so we could be closer to the heart of our club.

“One day we hope to visit Manchester and the Etihad Stadium.”
