‘An Evening with Kevin De Bruyne’ played out in front of more than 200 supporters, with some of the audience given the opportunity to ask questions to and have their photo taken with the City midfielder.
Kevin was joined on stage by Matchday Live presenter Natalie Pike, as they ran through a number of topics including his relationship with City manager Pep Guardiola.
Speaking on the night, the Belgian midfielder said: “Pep and me are fairly similar, mentality wise and the way we think about football. We don’t speak that often to each other but you know obviously he’s my boss so I have to listen to him!
“I think the first time that we had a conversation, I came later back from Euro 2016, we had a meeting and he said: ‘You can be a really, really good player, like top five in the world’, and I was like: ‘Wow, okay’. It gave me the confidence to go on.
“We have a really good relationship, sometimes he is really emotional about football, and I don’t think everybody sees that about him, but he loves the game, he loves the team, and the Club. It has been a really good ride.”
The night included a raffle and auction in aid of City in the Community, whilst supporters enjoyed drinks and a three-course meal in between in each session of questions.
Commenting on the success of the event, Mike Geary, Chief Executive Officer of City in the Community, said:
“This event was the first of its kind and it was a huge success.
“It was great to see so many people coming together to not only hear from a club icon, but also support City in the Community.
“All staff involved in this event put a lot of hard work in to ensure that it ran so smoothly and I would like to say a big thank you to all of them.
“We’ve raised an amazing amount, which the team is still counting! This is down to the generosity of so many supporters in attend, I would also like to express my thanks to them as well.”
The evening with Kevin De Bruyne was held as part of the club’s ‘Greatest Season of All’ campaign, which presents an opportunity for fans to come together with the Club to help empower healthier lives with city youth through football.
