After the pandemic forced the group to take an extended break from their usual activities, they returned in spectacular style at the Cityzens Day event, which was held to raise awareness of the importance of mental and physical health.
With City supporters from across Bangladesh in attendance, the get together also allowed members to celebrate the eighth anniversary of the group joining the Official Supporters Club.
Held in the capital of Dhaka, Cityzens Day began with a six-team football tournament, with each side named after legendary figures of City’s modern success.
Teams bearing the names of Sergio Aguero, Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Yaya Toure and Pablo Zabaleta competed for a place in the final, which saw team Toure crowned champions after they prevailed in a penalty shootout against the Zabaleta outfit.
Later, they reconvened to watch City’s Premier League victory over Wolves and, at half-time, new members received their Official Supporters Club membership packages.
“Cityzens Day is our best event of the year,” said Nazmul Hasan Atul, Chairman of the Bangladesh Official Supporters Club.
“This event was attended by over 120 City fans from all over the country and we hope to keep the numbers growing every year.”
The branch held its first Cityzens Day in 2019 and their aim is for it to become an annual event in their social calendar.
Since the inaugural occasion, the branch has sadly lost two highly respected members, which is why the executive committee were keen to promote the importance of health and wellbeing at their latest get together.
“We want to emphasise the importance of physical health through the games and mental wellbeing by sharing the good moments watching our beloved City play,” explained branch press officer, Imran Haroon.
Membership secretary, Mesbah Uddin Dipu, added: “City fans want more events that bring together supporters from all over.
“We regularly organise live match screenings and charity events that help the members come together to work and enjoy as a team.”
