City's Academy Stadium held the first of its three Women's European Championship matches when Belgium faced Iceland on Sunday.

On a gloriously sunny day at the City Football Academy, the sides played out a 1-1 draw in front of a raucous crowd of 3,859.

Iceland took the lead through Berglind Thorvaldsdottir’s header early in the second half before Justine Vanhaevermaet’s 67th minute levelled the scores.

They both take one point from their first match in Group D, which also contains France and Italy.

With fans kitted out in the red of Belgium and blue of Iceland, the Academy Stadium looked a picture throughout the afternoon.

Italy and Iceland will meet in our venue on Thursday 14 July before Italy v Belgium rounds out the group stage and the Academy Stadium’s participation in the tournament.
