The famous League Cup trophy started the day just a stone’s throw from the Etihad Stadium at Bradford Park, where the Club’s charity, City in the Community, was delivering a football session for local families.
In the afternoon, it then travelled to the City Football Academy, surprising one hundred female high school students who were enjoying an International Women’s Day themed event.
Both groups of participants were able to spend time taking photos with the trophy, which less than 24-hours prior had been lifted by Pep Guardiola’s squad.
Commenting on the trophy’s surprise arrival, one participant, Scarlett, said: “It was unreal to see the trophy today!
“It’s mad to think that Nico O’Reilly was holding this yesterday and now I’m stood next to it. It’s just mad and I’d like to say a huge thank you to Manchester City for making it possible.”
City in the Community’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Geary, added: “It was a joy to surprise our participants with the trophy today, especially so soon after the final whistle.
“Manchester City has always been passionate about connecting with the local community and we would like to express our sincere thanks for their work which enabled us to celebrate together.
“Both events had been scheduled for many weeks, but a touch of silverware definitely added a new level of excitement and inspiration for both our coaches and participants.”
City in the Community’s session at Bradford Park was organised as part of the Live Well Spring Festival and included guests from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority.
Participants from the charity’s City Play Together programme, which encourages children under five and their families to live a healthy lifestyle, enjoyed a session on a community football pitch which was regenerated by City in the Community last summer.
CITC AND C.P COMPANY OPEN COMMUNITY PITCH
The afternoon’s event was organised by City in the Community to celebrate International Women’s Day, which took place earlier this month.
One hundred female participants from local high schools were able to hear and learn from females working within the sport industry, as well as taking part in active multi-sports sessions.
Delivered annually at the City Football Academy, the initiative aims to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, as well as empowering each other with shared stories.
