City in the Community (CITC) has recently been celebrating their degree students who have completed the charity’s BSc (Hons) Manchester City Community Football Coaching course.

Sixteen students, from City in the Community and Manchester Metropolitan’s Community Football Coaching Degree, came together to commemorate all they have achieved and their graduation from the course.

Staff and students were treated to food and drinks before participating in an award ceremony and presentation, looking back on their three years with CITC and Manchester MET.

Special guest speakers included Manchester Metropolitan University lecturers who shared statements and words of congratulations to the class of 2023.

11+ Education Manager, Jonathan Pauley, said: “It was amazing to be able to spend the evening celebrating the group’s achievements.”

“Considering the impact of the pandemic, this group have shown outstanding resilience and perseverance skills. It’s been a challenging three years, but the level of development has been excellent.”

“We held the event to ensure the students know how proud we are of them and to allow students, family members, and staff the opportunity to celebrate their achievements together.

“A huge congratulations again to the students, your hard work and determination have paid off. Everyone at CITC wishes you the best with your future!”

During the celebration, the annual Alex Williams Award was given to graduating student Emma Henson.

Emma has thrived in an academic capacity with MMU, as well as with CITC on the beginning of her coaching journey. In a male-dominated environment, Emma has been a consistent figure with her studies despite a covid-hit first year and has been a shining example to her peers throughout.

After impressing CITC staff on her work-based learning placements through MMU, Emma earned a part-time role on our Outreach programmes and quickly became a highly valued member of the wider team – coaching on Kicks, One City Disability and City Girls.

The Club’s charity delivers a BSc (Hons) Manchester City Community Football Coaching Degree in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).

The programmes bring together CITC’s community football coaching knowledge with Manchester Metropolitan’s academic expertise, to offer the best of both worlds and an integrated path to rewarding career goals.

The degree combines classroom - and practical - based teaching at MMU’s newly launched Institute of Sport with work-based learning at the state-of-the-art Etihad Campus.

This mix is designed to help students develop a comprehensive skillset in coaching, sport development, performance analysis, strength and conditioning and more.

91% of students on the degree programme felt CITC helped them build a pathway towards their future, with 90% of students having felt their skills and knowledge developed.
