City in the Community (CITC) has recently celebrated its class of 2022 degree students who graduated from their BSc (Hons) Manchester City Community Football Coaching course.

Commemorating the students with an event at the Etihad Stadium, the young adults were invited to a meal in the Etihad Stadium Chairman’s Lounge followed by an awards ceremony to mark their achievements.

Special guest speakers including City in the Community Ambassador, Alex Williams MBE and Manchester Metropolitan University lecturers were also in attendance, sharing statements and words of congratulations to the class of 2022.

Chris Johnston, Further Education Officer said: “The origins of the course can be dated back to the 1980s when MMU started delivering sport courses and City in the Community began delivering football-based initiatives to communities across Manchester.

“Alex Williams was one of the founding members of CITC and to have him offer words of wisdom to the students made the evening extra special.

“We are proud of what the class of 2022 have achieved during their time at university and are looking forward to seeing them progress in the sports industry.”

The Club’s charity delivers a BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching Degree in partnership with Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).

The programmes bring together CITC’s community football coaching knowledge with Manchester Metropolitan’s academic expertise, to offer the best of both worlds and an integrated path to rewarding career goals.

Ben Ives, Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer in Sport Coaching at MMU said: “It’s an extremely special event where we get to share and celebrate our students hard work, dedication and successes with their family and friends.

“We are very proud to deliver this degree programme in partnership with City in the Community. It offers a unique learning experience that equips students for a broad range of career paths and possibilities across the sector.

“Indeed, there are already so many success stories from the class of 2022, from students securing full-time employment with City in the Community to others securing places on postgraduate teaching training (PGCE) courses.”

The degree combines classroom- and practical-based teaching at MMU’s newly launched Institute of Sport with work-based learning at the state-of-the-art Etihad Campus.

This mix is designed to help students develop a comprehensive skillset in coaching, sport development, performance analysis, strength and conditioning and more.
