City in the Community (CITC) has teamed up with Manchester City’s Official Recruitment Partner to bolster its new volunteering initiative.

Hays will be supporting CITC’s 93:20 programme via a donation, enabling the charity to cover associated costs for 18 months.

The announcement comes on the first day of National Volunteer Week in the UK, which recognises the contribution millions of people make across the UK through volunteering.

93:20 is a long-term volunteer programme providing skills, experiences, qualifications, and pathways into employment both within CITC and across our network of partner organisations.

Named after the iconic moment in May, 2012, where Manchester City became league champions for the first time in 44 years, it aims to inspire participants to never give up.

20 young people aged 16-25 from across various CITC programmes will complete up to 93 hours of volunteering. Opportunities are designed to develop their skills and experience, to help them prepare for the world of work.

Hays has worked closed with CITC on various projects in recent seasons, by offering valuable employability support to programme participants focused on areas such as CV writing tips and interview advice.

This new partnership will support young people in Manchester further by helping to purchase qualifications, such as coaching badges, safeguarding and first aid, kit and travel expenses.

Head of City in the Community, Mike Geary, said: “We are thrilled to be receiving support from Hays, on what has the potential to be a life-changing project for our participants.

“Hays have been a long-term supporter of ours for many years, most notably offering employability sessions for our degree students and delivering an eight-week series of workshops with City Career participants.

“This support will really help to kick-off our new 93:20 programme and we look forward to sharing its impact over the coming months.”

Hays Group Senior Sponsorship Manager, Jennifer Clark, added: “We are excited to be supporting Manchester City and the 93:20 programme, helping to raise the skills and employability of young people within the community.

“Ensuring young people have sufficient opportunities within the world of work and the necessary skills to reach their potential is incredibly important to Hays and when we were given the opportunity to be involved with the programme, we didn’t hesitate to commit our time and resources to it.

“We’re looking forward to making a lasting difference to the future of those taking part in the programme and hope to inspire others to develop their skills to reach their own potential and career goals.”

Joshua Green, who has been taking part in the new volunteering programme, said: “So far, I’ve really enjoyed the project. It’s provided me with an opportunity which I wouldn’t normally get.

“I’ve enjoyed working with some brilliant City in the Community staff and I’ve loved learning from them over the past few weeks.

“What I’ve learnt will be so beneficial when it comes to leading my sessions in the future and I’m grateful for this opportunity this programme has provided me with.”
