To celebrate International Day of Education, the Club is highlighting the important educational work of its charity, City in the Community (CITC).

All CITC programmes sit under one of three core pillars – Healthy People, Healthy Futures and Healthy Communities.

Healthy Futures programmes create educational pathways and support employability for people under the age of 25. Their core outcome is to improve education and skills development.

These programmes are City Inspires, City Careers, City Degree and City Esports.

CITY INSPIRES:

City Inspires is an educational programme, partnered with the Premier League, and delivered in schools.

The programme works with groups of secondary school learners who are at risk of not reaching their potential and support them as they move through the education system and early adulthood, giving them the confidence, resilience and skills to succeed.

With thanks to the Premier League Foundation for the support of CITC’s delivery of the Inspires programme.

CITY BTEC:

Delivered in colleges across Greater Manchester, City BTEC is a two-year education programme, which sees dedicated coaches deliver a holistic education of football, supporting those who want to develop their skills and abilities on the pitch as well as receiving classroom-based education.

Qualifications on offer at each college:

• Ashton Sixth Form College – BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport

• Connell Co-op College – Sports Coaching and Development BTEC Sport and Exercise Science.

• Oldham College – BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport and Level 2 Sports.

CITY ESPORTS:

The City Esports programme offers an exceptional opportunity for students who are passionate about both esports and education to merge the two as part of their academic journey.

The fully inclusive course gives students the chance to develop technical skills and gain insights into the industry.

With support from Manchester City, students are given exclusive opportunities to connect with professionals in the esports world, opening the door to industry connections.

Sitting under CITC’s Healthy Futures pillar, the programme aims to build healthy futures through education and employability pathways.

The education programmes encourage and inspire young people by providing qualifications and skills required to progress into further education, employment and training.

CITY DEGREE:

The City Degree programme brings together CITC’s community football coaching knowledge with Manchester Metropolitan University’s academic expertise, providing students with the skills and experience to help them find success in coaching.

The course gives students the opportunity to take advantage of fully funded qualifications, activators and workshops, which are built into the university timetable across the three years of learning, with further opportunities for partially funded qualifications also available.

Learners will enjoy a combined 28 weeks of placement over three years, arranged by CITC, with both Foundation and Batchelor of Science courses are available.

CITY CAREERS:

With both physical and mental well-being at the core of City Careers, our participants have the opportunity to holistically develop and upskill their employability and interpersonal skills.

Over the duration of the course, participants work with CITC staff and external partners, on a series of employment workshops, with a focus on developing soft employability skills such as CV and cover letter writing, interview practice and how to approach job applications.

There is also the opportunity to gain qualifications, such as:

FA Playmaker Qualification

Level 2 Community Sports Leadership Qualification

International Day of Education takes place on January 24 each year, aiming to celebrate and reflect the power of education.
