CITC participants marked World Autism Awareness Week, at a recent football session held by CITC coaches.

The Pan Disability session was held on the pitches at partner school Co-op Connell College, where players enjoyed football activities for all, with a focus on participation and inclusivity, as well as a seasonal Easter Egg hunt – though this is not part of our website wide Easter Egg hunt!.

CITC coaches have endeavoured to continue to host sessions throughout the challenges of the last year, with a focus on online sessions, though we were delighted to welcome more participants on to the pitch to enjoy football together once more.

To mark World Autism Awareness Week, participants posed for photographs on the pitch, as can be seen in our image carousel below.

The pictures were taken at CITC’s Under 13’s and Adult’s programmes, which took place the week commencing 29th March.

With over 25 players joining over the two sessions, it was fantastic to see players back on the pitch, and CITC staff look forward to welcoming players back to the CFA’s Community pitch soon.

Paul Kelly, Community Outreach Lead Coach for One City Disability, said:

We were delighted to mark World Autism Awareness Week at CITC with this week’s sessions, and participants were only too happy to have their snaps taken after the football.
The Easter Egg hunt was a great bit of fun too! George (pictured in hat) is a new participant and is accompanied by his sister, and it was his idea to have an egg hunt for the younger group. All the guys here really enjoyed it, and it’s great as George is now part of the adult’s session too.
All the coaches here at CITC, myself, Annabel, Harvey, as well as support coaches Jack and Nick at the Tuesday sessions, can’t wait to welcome all our participants back to our Monday and Tuesday sessions, as well as any new interested players too.

Pan Disability sessions are hosted for players of all impairments, with a focus on inclusivity and access for all, allowing all who love football to enjoy its social, sporting and health benefits.

Our sessions for players under 13 years-of-age take place on Monday’s between 17:00 and 17:45, at Co-op Connell College, with the adult’s programmes taking place between 18:00 and 20:00. Tuesday evenings see CITC coaches host a Pan disability session for 13 to 18-year-olds also at Co-op Connell College, between 17:00 and 20:00.

Players who are interested in participating can contact Sean Dywer for further information, and complete the following Covid-19 compliance form.

World Autism Awareness Day is held on April 2nd, and observed throughout the week. For more information visit here.
