Participants from City in the Community’s (CITC) Military Veterans’ programme remembered those who we have lost and who have served, prior to Manchester City’s match against Bournemouth last weekend.

The Military Veterans team walked from Manchester Crematorium with weighted bergens through Manchester to the Ardwick Green Cenotaph, then onto St Peters Church, where they paid their respects.

From there, they set off to the Etihad Stadium ahead of City’s Premier League game against Bournemouth, where they stood pitch-side, paying respects during a minute’s silence and the playing of The Last Post.

One CITC Military Veteran, Jay, said: “I will never forget that moment in my life where we got to walk out of the tunnel. I will be forever grateful to the Club to CITC for that.

“Thank you to all involved for making a man live his childhood dream.”

The City Vets programme was set up more than five years ago when Moving Forces contacted the charity, looking for a military programme that kept them active, as well as providing veterans with a form of socialising with people who have experienced similar experiences to them.

The programme has since grown from strength to strength, starting off with just three participants to now stand at more than 50.

New veterans are always welcomed to the sessions which are held on a Tuesday night 8pm-9pm at the City Football Academy indoor pitch.

If you would like to support CITC and its work, you can this Christmas through Manchester City’s ‘The Greatest Season of All’ campaign.

For every purchase a fan makes for a range of selected Christmas retail clothing items, available online and in the City Store, the Club will donate £5 to its charity, City in the Community.

Fans can also make additional donations at the tills in the stadium store, when checking out during their purchase journey for match tickets and via the charity’s new monthly Prize Draw www.mancity.com/citcprizedraw.

City in the Community empowers healthier lives with city youth through football.
