Hundreds of local youngsters in the Greater Manchester area have been taking part in free football sessions this Easter holiday, thanks to City in the Community’s Soccer Schools programme.

As part of the two-week programme, CITC have offered Soccer Schools sessions at three locations across Manchester, with children aged 6-16 taking part.

Soccer Schools, which has been running since the formation of CITC in 1986, is designed to provide local young people with the opportunity to engage in fun, football-based activities during school holidays, with full days of structured coaching sessions offered.

The programme aims to use the brand of Manchester City to increase physical activity, encourage healthy lifestyles and support the local community while children are away from schools during holidays.

CITC Ambassador Alex Williams says he is proud that the Soccer Schools programme continues to run, with some fantastic opportunities available for children in the local area.

He said: “The soccer schools are an integral part of what we offer for local young children. They’re free of charge and we look at addressing mental and physical wellbeing.

“We’re very proud of what we offer and we would like to thank all of our key partners who have made this possible.”

In addition to the Soccer Schools, CITC have also committed to providing 2,400 free lunch meals to youngsters across Greater Manchester this Easter break, ensuring more children than ever can benefit from a healthy lunch, even if they are not signed up to a Soccer School session.

Malikye, who attended our Soccer School this Easter, said: “I like attending these sessions because I make new friends and we get new experiences with playing football. To come out here is amazing!”

Another attendee, Zaine, said: “Every week it helps me to get better at football and I get to play with lots of my friends. Coronavirus has been tough but playing football has been helping a lot”

Our Soccer Schools will continue this summer break, with details set to be released over the coming weeks. Keep an eye on CITC’s social media channels for more information!
