City in the Community is proud to have inspiring women at its heart, from participants, to Young Leaders and staff.

That’s why we’re celebrating International Women’s Day all week, helping to shine a light on some of the brilliant people who make up our team and spread empowering messages to participants.

Here’s five ways City in the Community is celebrating…

1: Creating a global paper chain

Our participants, Young Leaders and staff have come together to create a global paper chain, celebrating words which are empowering to women.

People from across the CITC family created paper cut outs of women, before decorating them with supportive and powerful words. Why? A simple activity with a big message – we are stronger together!

2: In Conversation

Zahrah Malik, a Young Leader at City in the Community, sat down at the Etihad for a conversation with Manchester entrepreneur, Christina Taylor.

Founder of Aim Sky High, Christina has spent over a decade using dance to help transform the lives of young people.

Together, Zahrah and Christina discuss what it’s like to be a young woman in sports and business, who inspires them and how City in the Community is continuing to empower girls across Manchester.

3: A Girl with Goals

Manchester City have launched a new range of merchandise to celebrate International Women’s Day and will be donating all profits to City in the Community!

The ‘A Girl with Goals’ collection is on sale now and will support a new mental health initiative for girls in Manchester.

All proceeds will help CITC to expand its existing football and mental health curriculum to deliver specially tailored sessions for young women aged 11 to 18 years.

4: Staff spotlights

Meet Amy and Annabel!

Amy joined CITC as an apprentice working on our Primary School sessions and has made her way up to become a Full Time Coach.

She now supports children aged between two and five on their fundamental movement skills!

Annabel is a Community Outreach Lead Coach, supporting our girls project.

Her CITC story began four years ago as a Young Leader in Melbourne, but she’s now become an inspiring mentor for young woman right here in Manchester!

5: City Girls: empowerment session

To round off the week, we are running a live active session on Friday 12th of March at 4pm!

The City in The Community Girls Empowerment Football provision is designed provide local young people with the opportunity to engage in fun, football-based activities to improve confidence levels.

Sessions are open to young people aged 6-14 years old.
