While the stadium has been without fans this season, CITC were delighted to welcome 15 City Careers participants to The Etihad on Thursday April 15th, to complete the final session of their 8-week City Careers course.

Though usually accompanied by friends and family, this graduation was enjoyed in a safe and socially distanced manner. After finishing the final workshop, participants collecting their certificates, made their acceptance speech in front of their peers, and celebrated their accomplishment over pizza and refreshments.

Over the duration of the 8-week course, participants work with CITC officers, staff and our recruitment partner Hays, on a series of employment workshops, with a focus on developing soft employability skills such as CV and cover letter writing, interview practise and how to approach job applications.

There is also the opportunity to gain qualifications, such as ASDAN Level 1 Award in Employability Skills, First Aid Qualification, as well as Food Hygiene and Sale2Site Online CSCS qualifications.

Alongside qualifications, there is a real focus on developing participants as individuals, developing broader life skills, confidence, resilience and physical and mental health, so participant feel positive and confident to develop their personal and professional lives.

Chris Johnston, Degree Officer at City in the Community, said, “It’s a fantastic achievement for participants on our City Careers course, who have been really proactive and enthusiastic for all the sessions and events throughout.

“It’s great to see all their progression and increased confidence, which will hopefully put them in a stronger position in regard to future employment and training opportunities.

“We’re especially delighted to see all our participants now progressing through different application and interview processes, with several securing employment and apprenticeships.”

Mason Bell, a participant on City Careers, added, “Without this, I had nothing to do really, and was just lounging in bed, and since I started this 8-week course, its just been good.

“I’ve gained so much experience with interviews and applications. I have a CV now, which I’ve never had before, as well as met a whole load of decent people, and its just been a great experience, so thank you Lois and Lucy (CITC City Careers Coaches)”.
