In Montevideo, Uruguay, many families live in a situation of extreme social vulnerability, which manifests itself in a range of social challenges including low engagement with education, resulting in other issues such as child labour and limited access to employment.

As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, schools are required to implement new sanitary measures of care and develop new programmes to offer educational and emotional support for all those involved.

This project is providing sanitation equipment to schools to enable children and young people to return to education, as well as supporting them with the tools to continue their learning.

The community team at Manchester City’s sister club Montevideo City Torque have been heavily involved in supporting the local community through this project.

To date, they have donated sanitation kits to seven local schools, helping them to provide a safe environment for 2,700 children to safely return to school.

As well as helping to create a safe environment, the club have donated over 200 books and footballs to local schools, enabling young people to continue to learn and be active.

Montevideo City Torque are also helping young people to continue to take part in football activities by providing sanitation kits to three local children’s football leagues.

This has enabled over 3000 young people to start playing football again, supporting their physical health and wellbeing.
