Co-op Live, currently being built on the Etihad Campus, held a ‘topping out’ ceremony earlier this week following the completion of the roof construction.

This latest development marks a major milestone in the construction of the UK’s largest entertainment arena, with the venue on course to open its doors in April 2024.

City Football Group has partnered with Oak View Group on the project, and both organisations’ CEOs attended the ceremony. They were joined by other partners and contractors in what was the first-ever event held in the arena’s uniquely designed bowl.

Guests were invited to sign the final acoustically treated roof cassette which was lifted into place to top out the structure. In doing so, their signatures have become a part of Co-op Live’s permanent structure.

Commenting on Co-op Live, Ferran Soriano, Chief Executive Officer at City Football Group, said:

“Co-op Live will play a pivotal role in City Football Group’s plans to develop the Etihad Campus into a year-round entertainment destination, but it will also bring with it a significant source of community, employment and economic opportunity for the city of Manchester and its people.”

“We are incredibly proud to have partnered with OVG on this project and look forward to welcoming fans from across the world to the arena next year.”

Since 2008, City Football Group has overseen over £700m of investment into the Etihad Campus and East Manchester, including the development of the City Football Academy, the Connell Co-op College, the Manchester Institute of Health & Performance and the upcoming Co-op Live.

Once complete, the venue will be the UK’s most socially responsible arena. It is committed to sustainability with a strong focus on all-green electric power, zero waste to landfill, and 100% rainwater collection.

With an innovative smart bowl design, cutting-edge visual and acoustic technology, plus 32 bars and restaurants – Co-op Live is creating a unique space for the people of Manchester and beyond. For more information about the arena, visit www.cooplive.com.
