First up he faced FK Zalgiris Vilnius’s Domasas. Bonanno was able to fight off the nerves of playing on the European stage and finished victorious with the score 4-2 at full-time.

But back-to-back 4-1 triumphs against ACF Fiorentina’s Virgil and Borussia Dortmund’s Feldman meant Bonanno was through to the Round of 32.

A difficult task awaited Bonanno as he faced FC Famalicao’s Rikhard who took a quick 3-0 lead.

But Bonanno remained focused and managed to pull off a phenomenal comeback and won 6-4.

In the Round of 16, Bonanno dominated in his match against AFC Ajax’s Levi De Weerd. Come the full-time whistle, Mati won 5-3.
