The FIFPRO World 11 shortlists have been revealed, and nine Manchester City players are up for selection.

Ederson, Kyle Walker, John Stones, Ruben Dias, Rodrigo, Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland are included on the Men’s shortlist, while Alex Greenwood has made the cut for the Women’s squad.

Club legend and former captain, Ilkay Gundogan, has also been nominated.

The award is voted for by over 25,000 professional players each year, celebrating the 11 best players at the end of each calendar year.

The goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards with the most votes in their position make it into the final team. The 11th spot is then assigned to the outfield player with the next highest number of votes to complete the team.

The eight players from Pep Guardiola’s squad each played a crucial role in the Club’s most successful season to date, as we secured the Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League crown.

Ederson, Walker, Stones and Dias’ commanding presence ensured City finished the 2022/23 campaign with the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League while also keeping an incredible eight Champions League clean sheets.

Indeed, while City have deservedly gained plaudits for our free-flowing attacking football, our ability to keep the ball out at the other end has been just as vital in our success to date, with Guardiola’s men also conceding just en route to our FA Cup triumph.

With 56 appearances in all competitions, Rodrigo featured more for City last season than any other player, and it was his strike in Istanbul which sealed our first-ever Champions League title against Inter.

Bernardo’s industry and intelligence also shone once again for City, with the Portuguese international’s quickfire double against Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals capping off a mesmeric 4-0 win at the Etihad Stadium in May.

Included in last year’s final XI, De Bruyne provided an astonishing 31 assists across the campaign, while also chipping in with ten strikes, including three against Arsenal amidst the Premier League title race.

Haaland, meanwhile, enjoyed a dream debut campaign for Pep Guardiola’s men, breaking numerous longstanding goalscoring records en route to grabbing 52 strikes in 53 appearances.

While Gareth Taylor’s side weren’t able to add to our trophy cabinet in 2022/23, it was another standout season for Greenwood, who extended her stay at City in December of 2022.

The defender’s stellar displays in the heart of defence saw her included in the PFA Team of the Year, while she was also a part of the England squad who reached the World Cup final in August 2023.

The final teams will be revealed at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in London on Monday 15 January.

Congratulations to Ederson, Kyle, John, Ruben, Rodri, Bernardo, Kevin, Erling and Alex on their inclusions in the FIFPRO World 11 shortlists, and good luck in the final vote!
