On Sunday January 8, Jamie hit the 1,500 nautical mile point, marking the halfway point to Antigua.
Throughout 2022, Jamie set himself two extreme challenges as part of campaign all in the aid of raising money for City in the Community and Cancer Fund for Children in his native Ireland.
Jamie has previously run six ultra-marathons in six days across the Sahara Desert during the Marathon Des Sables, in March 2022 as part of the first challenge of his campaign.
He is currently rowing from the Canary Islands across the Atlantic Ocean as he rows solo 3,000 miles to Antigua.
Jamie is set to spend up to three months on his own rowing the world’s toughest ocean as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Rowing Challenge. Rowing up to 16 hours a day, navigating storms, sharks and loneliness, Jamie has a huge challenge on his hands.
At any time, the closest person to Jamie could be on the international space station.
Commenting on making the halfway point of his challenge Jamie said: “It was a pretty cool feeling getting to halfway and a big relief, it’s a big target notched off now.
“Fingers crossed I can stay on track with my 50 miles a day and get there [Antigua].”
Jamie has worked with Manchester City’s Academy teams for more than four years.
Though having coached some of the very best junior age players at City, it was his experience teaching children in rural India where his ambition to champion opportunities for disadvantaged children first took root, inspiring Jamie’s incredible next steps and fundraising efforts.
City in the Community’s portion will support a mental health programme, City Thrive, supporting people in Manchester under the age of 25.
