Everyone at Manchester City is deeply saddened by the passing of legendary commentator, John Motson at the age of 77.

The former BBC commentator was the voice of football for more than five decades and was synonymous with many memorable moments for City.

He was the commentator for the 1981 Centenary FA Cup final against Tottenham which he described as one of his favourite matches at Wembley.

Motson was also on the microphone for the 5-2 victory over Spurs in October 1994 at Maine Road which he described as amongst the finest games he had ever seen.

Famous for his sheepskin coat, City marked his final commentary at the Etihad Stadium for the BBC in 2017 by presenting him with a branded coat.

He covered 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships and 29 FA Cup finals for the BBC and worked on Match of the Day from 1971 to 2018.

The thoughts of everyone at Manchester City are with John’s family and friends.
