Manchester City Academy players and staff have been pulling on their running trainers and clocking up hundreds of kilometres in support of one coach’s extreme fundraiser.

Under 14’s Coach, Jamie Carr, has spent the last week running six ultramarathons through the Sahara desert as part of his ‘Nothing Ventured Campaign’.

The run will be followed by a solo row across the Atlantic Ocean in December, with every penny raised going to the Club’s official charity, City in the Community, and Cancer Fund for Children in his native Ireland.

Academy players and staff have been coming together to cover the same distance as Jamie every day this week, including a gruelling Wednesday which saw Jamie clock 84km over the dunes.

Senior Youth Development Phase Operations Manager, Jim Turrell, said: “It has been a privilege to support Jamie during this amazing challenge.

“Jamie is an incredibly resilient young man with an infectious positive attitude.

“To carry out several small runs between staff and the young boys has engaged and inspired us all more than we could ever have imagined.

“We are all confident and excited to see him cross the finish line this week.”

Kevin De Bruyne was also keen to show his support for Jamie, joining the U14’s squad on Thursday 31st March as they completed their run.
