Utilising the coaching philosophy and methodology of Manchester City, the Manchester City Football School will provide authentic and creative football coaching programmes for St Laurence’s College students.
The Football School, which will be based within the College’s South Brisbane campus, will include a Manchester City coach in Brisbane, utilising the schools’ first-class facilities.
Such amenities include a FIFA-certified artificial football pitch plus state-of-the-art indoor training and conditioning facilities.
Enrolments for the programme will open soon, with interested players encouraged to attend an Information Evening on Wednesday 7 September.
The partnership’s official commencement will take place in January 2023 for St Laurence’s College students and will expand to offer programmes for the wider community later in the year.
Jorgina Busquets, Managing Director - Football Education & Recreation for City Football Group, commented: “It’s a pleasure to be able to bring the coaching philosophy and methodology of Manchester City to St Laurence’s College.
“As an organisation, we have a defined and innovative style when it comes to playing football and ensure that fun and development are intertwined as part of the experience.
“Sport is such a powerful educational lever and we look forward to working with St Laurence’s College and its students in the future.”
Chris Leadbetter, Principal of St Laurence’s College, was impressed with the focus on developing young people through sport. He said, “We are proud to be the first and only Manchester City Football School in Queensland.”
“The holistic focus of Manchester City and the espoused values of winning the right way align with the ethos of St Laurence’s College and affirm what we embody as a school.
“Our staff and students are excited by the opportunities, pathways and experiences this programme will offer and believe this partnership will inspire a new generation of young men to achieve excellence on the pitch.
“The inclusion of the Manchester City Football School adds depth to our co-curricular offerings which includes Sport, the Arts and Culture, Service and Clubs. Each programme enhances the educational experience for our students.
“At St Laurence’s College, we continue to develop local and global partnerships to ensure that our boys leave as successful, passionate and hope-filled young men,” Leadbetter said.
