The event saw around 100 primary school children from across Greater Manchester come together to discuss the impact of racial discrimination.
They were joined by former City players Alex Williams MBE, Steve Howey, and Gary Bennett MBE, who took part in a bespoke panel session and with Ifem Onuora, the Premier League’s Head of Race Equality and Inclusion.
During the panel, the former players discussed their own experiences and took part in a Q&A session with the children.
The event forms part of Manchester City and Show Racism the Red Card’s combined efforts to use football as a tool for promoting anti-racism.
Speaking after the event Show Racism the Red Card’s Chief Executive, Ged Grebby, commented: “It is great to be back at the home of the Treble winners Manchester City for our education event with local school students.
“The Etihad is always an excellent venue for our anti-racist education workshops and we always look forward to working with the young people.
“Show Racism the Red Card passed the one million mark for the number of people engaged in our anti-racism educational programme in March 2023 and this is part of our ‘I am one in a million’ programme.”
As part of the event, the children attended several anti-racism workshops which were led by the Show Racism the Red Card’s expert team.
Speakers at the various workshops discussed concepts of racism, including stereotypes and terminology, while others spoke about the issue of Hate Crime.
Meanwhile, the children also had the opportunity to tour the Etihad Stadium, taking in the heritage of Manchester City.
