Manchester City’s Trophy Tour continues its journey around the globe, giving fans the opportunity to see and celebrate the club’s fourth title success in five years.
For the first, Mexico’s capital – the most populous city in North America - was part of the itinerary.
One of the highlights of the tour saw Zabaleta surprise young City fan, Eduardo Cano, by taking the Premier League trophy along to his workplace.
The surprise was organised with the help of Eduardo’s manager, José.
Eduardo has been a City fan for several years and soon after Sergio Aguero’s iconic 93’20 goal which sealed the Club’s first Premier League title success, he decided to commemorate the historic moment by tattooing Aguero’s shirtless celebration on his arm.
Eduardo showed his gratitude by taking Zabaleta to Coyoacán, an historic vibrant centre, where Pablo not only tried the traditional Tacos, but also tried his hand at making his own.
Other highlights of the Trophy Tour took in a visit to our Cityzens Giving project in El Coyolito to see the Young Leaders who are using the power of football to tackle local water issues.
City in the Community coaches also delivered a training session to 40 Young Leaders. The initiative was followed by a digital summit, connecting Young Leaders and Xylem experts from ten different cities.
There was also time for yet more surprises, as we arranged for Zabaleta – and the Premier League trophy – to greet two special members of our Mexico City Official Supporters Club in person.
Mexico City branch treasurer Jorge had originally planned to link up with the Club during our summer tour to the United States before circumstances meant he had to alter his plans.
Instead, the Club then arranged to link up with him while we were in Mexico City on the Trophy Tour on the pretext of gauging his thoughts on what it was like to be an Official Supporters Club member in the country – and what it meant to him to be a City supporter.
Branch chair Marcos, meanwhile, had demonstrated his own dedication to the Club by embarking on a 10-hour bus journey from VeraCruz in order to meet up with the Trophy Tour party in Mexico City.
Mexico, of course, is renowned for its iconic Taco dishes - a corn or wheat tortilla stuffed with filling and garnish.
And we arranged for a young Mexican chef to show our former Argentinian right back just how they do it in Mexico City. RobeGrill, had a few Tacos ready for Pablo, whilst the pair chatted about football and Zabaleta’s illustrious career.
This leg of the Trophy Tour finished by exploring the melting pot of different architectural influences where Pablo was pictured sporting PUMA’S latest exciting City clothing range.
From the Angel of Independence, to the Altar A Los Defensores De La Patria, the blue sky of Mexico City was the perfect scenario for the photoshoot, with the contribution of a local Mariachi band, providing a fitting finale to a memorable Trophy Tour visit to Mexico.
Next up, the Trophy Tour visits Oslo for a football festival and screening of the Manchester Derby.
