Manchester City mark Holocaust Memorial Day 2026.

Holocaust Memorial Day is commemorated every year on 27 January, providing an opportunity to reflect on the six million Jewish people murdered during the Holocaust, as well as the millions of others who were persecuted and killed by the Nazi regime.

This includes members of the LGBTQ+ community, disabled people, Roma and Sinti, and many other targeted groups.

The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2026, ‘Bridging Generations’, reminds us that remembrance is not confined to those who lived through these events. It is a shared responsibility, passed from one generation to the next.

This year encourages us to connect with history by listening, learning and ensuring its lessons continue to shape the future. In doing so, we create a powerful link between remembrance and action, and between the past and a more hopeful tomorrow.

To mark the day, players from our Men’s and Women’s First Teams have once again come together in our annual Holocaust Memorial Day video, encouraging supporters to continue to stand united against hatred and prejudice by lighting a candle in their window at 8pm as part of the national #LightTheDarkness moment.

Holocaust Memorial Day 2026 will also see a special educational event involving our Academy players, delivered in partnership with Manchester United’s Academy.

Taking place on Holocaust Memorial Day itself, the event will include a talk from Noemie Lopian, daughter of Holocaust survivors Dr Ernst Israel Bornstein and Renée Bornstein.

Noemie, whose family lived in Germany until she was 13, now dedicates her work to educating young people about the realities of the Holocaust and the atrocities endured by millions, ensuring these stories continue to be heard and understood.

Following the talk, City’s Under-14 Academy players will join their Manchester United counterparts for a match, preceded by a minute’s silence to honour all those who lost their lives in the Holocaust, as well as victims of subsequent genocides.

To mark the occasion, the team captains will also exchange a specially created Holocaust Memorial Day pennant.
